The Gayraj is a small, independent vintage postcard and ephemera shop based in the Chicago suburbs. We specialize in original vintage postcards, antique and collectible paper, matchbook covers, greeting cards, photographs, advertising pieces, and other small treasures from everyday history.
The business is proudly run by one person, with occasional moral support from one dog who is far more interested in squeaky toys than postcards. My interest in old paper began with a dusty shoebox discovered in a garage, filled with postcards and forgotten pieces from bygone eras. They were little moments frozen in time: towns, storefronts, vacations, holidays, handwriting, postmarks, jokes, scenery, and personal messages that deserved to be preserved and shared.
Every item in The Gayraj shop is individually selected, scanned, described, and listed with care. Many pieces are one-of-a-kind or limited in availability, making them useful for collectors, local historians, genealogists, artists, designers, scrapbookers, and anyone who loves the look and feel of authentic vintage paper.
Our collection includes scenic views, small towns, city streets, hotels, restaurants, roadside attractions, holiday cards, transportation, advertising, humorous illustrations, real photo postcards, matchbook covers, and other collectible ephemera from the United States and beyond.
Whether you are a seasoned collector searching for a specific place or subject, a family historian looking for a glimpse of the past, or a curious newcomer drawn to old paper and visual history, The Gayraj offers a carefully curated collection of original vintage items with real stories behind them.
The Gayraj is not a large marketplace or mass-produced gift shop. It is an independent specialist shop built around the preservation, identification, and sharing of vintage postcards and collectible paper ephemera, one piece at a time.
