This beautiful complete set of six antique postcards illustrates the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten (The Town Musicians of Bremen), with artwork by Oskar Herrfurth (1854–1934), one of the most popular German illustrators of the early 20th century.
The tale follows four unlikely companions — a donkey, dog, cat, and rooster — who set out for Bremen to become musicians. Along the way they discover a band of robbers, and with clever teamwork, they frighten the thieves away and find themselves a new home.
Each postcard in the set depicts a key moment in the story:
-
The animals meeting and setting out together
-
Peeking into the robbers’ house
-
Surprising the thieves with their music and noise
-
The robbers fleeing in terror
-
The animals making themselves comfortable in their new home
-
The joyful ending of their adventure
