This original vintage multi-view postcard presents Die Wies, the celebrated Wies Pilgrimage Church located in Upper Bavaria, Germany. The card combines exterior views of the church with richly detailed interior scenes, including the soaring Rococo ceiling frescoes, ornate altar, nave, organ loft, pulpit, and the Gnadenbild of the Scourged Christ.
Designed by Dominikus Zimmermann and built between 1746 and 1754, the Wieskirche is widely regarded as the finest achievement of Bavarian Rococo architecture. Its dramatic setting against the Ammergau Alps and its importance as a Catholic pilgrimage site led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
